DIY Sea Glass Welcome Sign With Cricut + Martha Stewart

August 7, 2019

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Cricut. The opinions and text are all mine.

Recently a really good friend of mine gave me a huge bag of sea glass. As I was cleaning the little bits of glass, I started thinking about ways sea glass could be incorporated into a beach wedding. The majority of sea glass is too small to be used for more than place cards, but I realized you can recreate the same look of sea glass with sea glass spray paint. When applied to clear surfaces this spray paint leaves a light powdery finish that mimics the look of sea glass. This DIY sea glass welcome sign would be ideal for a beach wedding and is super easy to make using the Cricut® Explore Air 2 Martha Stewart Edition. Read on below to learn how to create this DIY sea glass wedding welcome sign.DIY Sea Glass Sign DIY Sea Glass Sign

Supplies you Will Need

Cricut Explore Air 2 Martha Stewart Edition only available at Michaels Stores
Cricut Martha Stewart Essential Tool Set, Gold
Black Tie Soiree Mixed Materials Pack
Cricut 12×12 Cutting Mat
Clear Acrylic
Wooden Table Number Stand
Sea Glass Spray Paint in Aqua

First, remove the clear cover on your acrylic and wipe it down with a clean cloth. Place your acrylic down on a paper bag or newspaper and apply spray paint to one side. Apply the sea glass spray paint slowly and evenly. It is better to layer your spray paint to achieve the desired effect rather than spray heavily on the first coat. I would suggest testing your spray painting technique out on scrap paper first before spraying your acrylic.DIY Sea Glass SignWhile your acrylic dries load white vinyl into your Explore Air 2 Martha Stewart Edition. For this project I used the Black Tie Soiree mixed materials pack from Cricut and Martha Stewart available exclusively at Michaels. This mixed materials pack includes gold foil, vinyl in white, black, and transfer tape. All of these colors would work perfectly for this project and it makes it so easy that they are available in one pack!

I used the texts Cricut Sans and Emmaline for my sign. The word “welcome” is from the “Merlot phrases and words” cartridge pack (#M6C4B545) in Design Space. When you purchase the Explore Air 2 Martha Stewart edition you will receive 25 FREE ready to make Martha Stewart files, which will make your wedding DIY projects a breeze!DIY Sea Glass SignOnce you have designed your welcome sign press the flashing Cricut button and cut! With up to 2x faster cutting, the Explore Air 2 Martha Stewart edition will be done cutting before your spray paint even dries! The Martha Stewart Cricut bundle includes an exclusive tool set in a pearl and gold color scheme. I don’t know about you, but I think crafting with pretty tools makes everything easier! Use the weeder to remove the negative space from your vinyl.DIY Sea Glass Sign Flip your sea glass sign over so that the side you spray painted is on the bottom. Place transfer tape over your acrylic design and adhere to your table number. Remember, you want to place the vinyl on the side you didn’t spray paint.DIY Sea Glass SignDIY Sea Glass Sign Sea glass adds the perfect elegant, coastal touch to a beach wedding. Luckily, the Cricut Explore Air 2 Martha Stewart edition makes creating this DIY sea glass welcome sign a breeze, letting everyone achieve the sea glass look for their wedding – without having to scour the beach for glass!DIY Sea Glass SignDIY Sea Glass Sign

Hi! I love your projects but I just purchased my Cricut Explore Air 2 and I really want to try out this project but does it matter that it’s not the Martha edition? I don’t even see those fonts available in Design Space 🙁

Hi Frances, yes you can make this project with any of the Cricut machines. The fonts are all Cricut fonts except for the word “welcome” which is a cut file within Design Space.
