Easy DIY Makeup Bag Valentine’s Gift

January 9, 2019

Today I am going to show you how to make an easy DIY makeup bag. Printed with conversation hearts these makeup bags would make the perfect Valentine’s Gift for your girlfriend’s or bridesmaids! I love Valentine’s Day as evidenced by my many DIY’s over the years. (see my Valentine’s pinatas and funny Valentine’s cards.) I also love gifts that can be used rather than something that just gathers dust in the closet. So this DIY makeup bag combines two of my favorite things – Valentine’s Day and a gift that is functional! Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to give a gift from the heart and nothing says that more than a gift you made yourself. So read on below to learn how to make these easy DIY makeup bag Valentine’s gifts!DIY Makeup BagValentine's DIY Makeup BagI found these scalloped makeup bags for $3 in the Dollar Spot at Target. Those items tend to go fast so I have linked to some similar styles below if you can’t find them or would like to use a bigger makeup bag. Pink Makeup Bag: Option 1 | Option 2 | Option 3 | Option 4 | Option 5 | Option 6DIY Makeup BagIf you are new to the Cricut world then these DIY makeup bags are the perfect introduction to using iron-on vinyl. When I first began making projects with Cricut, iron-on was the material that scared me the most. But the Cricut Maker and the EasyPress make using Iron-on SO easy!

What you will need to make these DIY makeup bag Valentine’s gifts:

Cricut Maker | White Iron-on Vinyl | Tools Set | Standard Grip Mat | EasyPress | EasyPress Mat

First you will need to open up my design in Cricut Design Space. Click Here to go straight to my Valentine’s conversation heart design. You can either use my conversation heart pattern or create your own within Design Space. To create your own design select the heart  from the shapes tool. Drag your heart shape open. Then select a Cricut font and type out your message. Place your message on top of the heart and press “weld” to flatten. Pressing weld lets your Cricut machine know that you want the design cut as one pattern.DIY Cricut Makeup Bag Adjust the design to the size you desire. Then press the green “make it” button in the top right-hand corner of the screen. Remember to press the “mirror” button before printing. Your image should look like the below screenshot with the design flipped.DIY Cricut Makeup BagsPlace your iron-on vinyl shiny side down on your grip mat. Then press the flashing Cricut button and let your Cricut Maker do it’s thing!Circuit DIY Makeup BagOnce your design has printed use the weeder tool to remove any negative space. Make sure to leave the white space within the letters “o”, “b, and “p.”Conversation Heart DIY Makeup BagNext use this handy guide to determine the setting of your EasyPress. My makeup bag was faux leather so I set my EasyPress to 280 degrees, heated my bag for 5 seconds and applied my vinyl for 30 seconds. These makeup bags have a slight slant to them. The trick to applying iron-on to these DIY makeup bags is to apply pressure but not to press down so hard that you are smooshing the bag. Pressing all the way down to the EasyPress mat will result in the makeup bag having a permanent indent. Instead place the EasyPress on top of your bag and hold at a slant so it matches the form of the makeup bag. Do not push down, just hold the EasyPress in place and your vinyl will adhere.DIY Makeup BagApply gentle pressure with your EasyPress and peel off warm.DIY Valentine's Makeup Bag Your DIY makeup bag is now complete! Fill these DIY makeup bags with makeup and gift to your bridesmaids or give to girlfriends for Valentine’s Day!
