Destination Wedding On Captiva Island

May 27, 2020

Bride Megan always knew she would marry at her families favorite vacation spot Captiva Island, Florida. Her fiancee Peter quickly fell in love with the island locale as well and the two planned a relaxed and elegant wedding at South Seas Island Resort. Jet Set Wed brought the couples coastal vision to life including an outdoor reception under swaying palm trees. Kaity Brawley Photography captured this couples wedding day to perfection with sunset portraits on the beach and shots of the couple in their fun getaway car!How did you meet? Peter and I met when we were both living in Denver in 2012. We met at a bar on Halloween when I was dressed as Rosie the Riveter and he wasn’t dressed up.Tell us a little a bit about your wedding: I have been visiting Captiva Island since I was 3 years old and have wanted to get married at South Seas since I was in my early teens! Peter has fallen in love with Captiva since first visiting the island with me in 2013. My parents own a house on the island and we are lucky enough to visit a few times a year- it has become a home away from home for us!
We both love King’s Crown lawn in South Seas and knew that was where we wanted our reception- it’s on the water and studded with palm trees. We wanted a color palate to complement the surrounding beauty. Dark teals, blues, greens with pops of color in the flowers. I am a big fan of flowers- I wanted lots of floral! What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip? The most important thing to us was that our guests had fun! 99% of our guests were from out of town so we wanted to show them a good time. Also wanted good food! What were your favorite parts of the day? Everything! It was absolutely perfect and I wish we could do it again. The night was magical.Did you include any family heirlooms or special traditions? My engagement ring was Peter’s grandmother’s. I used my maternal grandmother’s handkerchief- she passed away 13 years ago. I wore my paternal grandmother’s engagement ring – she passed away 15 years ago. I also wore some of my mom’s jewelry. Peter’s family has a German family bible from the 1880s- We had this at the ceremony.Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Get a planner!
